Making a Difference

Selfless donations of our sponsors and supporters being put to work.
Our organization could not be making a difference without you!

In addition to planning many events throughout the year and partnering with other individuals and organizations to spread awareness and provide support, Karsyn's Krusaders is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of those affected by cancer. Whether it is coordinating a "card drive", planning special recognition events at tracks for cancer survivors or simply sharing stories and offering support to others who battle this disease, Karsyn's Krusaders is here to show that small actions, thoughts deeds and dollars can make a large impact, especially when we all work together!

February 2011
Alex's Lemonade Stand is an organization dedicated to raising money and awareness of childhood cancer, primarily research into new treatments and cures while encouraging and empowering others, especially children, to get involved and make a difference for children with cancer. Karsyn's Krusaders is excited to provide $5,000, nearly a month's worth of funding, to support specific research grants for high-risk cancers.

January 2011
Through the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Karsyn's Krusaders adopted the wish of special young lady. Shelby was granted her wish of a Sweet 16 Birthday Party Masquerade Ball for 100 of her friends and family, complete with limo, red carpet, personalized masks for each guest, special entertainment and much more. Make-A-Wish plays an important role in the lives of children battling serious illness and Karsyn's Krusaders is thrilled to be able to play a part in the magic of granting wishes.

December 2010
Donated $2,000 to The Children's Cancer Connection, a non-profit organization that enhances the quality of life for children and families affected by childhood cancer. The specific donation was directed specifically to the pediatric oncology camp to be used to sponsor campers and purchase shirts for all 400 plus campers in 2011. The theme for this year's event is "planes, trains and automobiles". We can't wait to visit the camp this year with the Chargin' Charlie McKenna and Karsyn Krusader grill car. We are looking forward to grilling burgers and hot dogs for all kids, counselors and staff.

December 2010
SuperSibs is a non-profit organization whose mission is to honor, support and recognize the brothers and sisters of children with cancer. SuperSibs also awards scholarships to students who illustrate their ability to take this difficult life experience and turn it into a positive, strength-building experience, to create good in their own lives and the lives of others. Karsyn's Krusaders held a fundraising event at Davenport Speedway in July (the exact day that a special boy who had battled cancer was laid to rest in Davenport). Karsyn's Krusaders thought it was only proper to allow that family to determine where the $1,000 raised that night should be directed. The family not only chose to donate the money to SuperSibs, but chose to sponsor a $1,000 scholarship to continue their son's legacy and in honor of their daughter who is a "super sib".

December 2010
Designated a gift of $5,000 to assist CaringBridge in the research, design and implementation of a "care calendar". The "care calendar" is an enhancement to the CaringBridge website that will enable family and friends to connect with loved ones who are facing a significant health challenge, allowing them to coordinate hospital visits, meals, drop off and pick up of siblings, house cleaning, pet sitting, emergency needs etc., with friends, family and others who would like to help the family as they go through their medical illness.

December 2010
Employees of John Deere Engine Works adopted Karsyn's Krusaders and decorated a tree for their "Festival of Trees" event. The tree received first place recognition and was donated to a little boy who had recently undergone a transplant. Through the combined effort of the employees and Karsyn's Krusaders, additional gifts were collected and purchased. Many of the items were delivered with the tree, while other smaller items and gas cards were purchased for families who were forced to spend their holiday season at the U of I Children's Hospital.

June 2010
Karsyn's Krusaders, through their "$1 Challenge" fundraiser on Facebook, raised over $350 for the American Cancer Society as part of the Black Hawk County Relay for Life. Together, Krusader supporters showed how small actions, thoughts, deeds and dollars can make a huge difference.

April 2010
Donated $1,000 to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's "Team in Training", a marathon race that helps the fight against blood cancers.

February 2010
Presented Give Kids the World with a $3,000 check on behalf of Karsyn's Krusaders.  See the response we received and the impact that Karsyn's Krusaders made:

"I thoroughly enjoyed meeting your family and learning of your challenges, triumphs and magnificent fundraising endeavors. With love as the foundation, it seems like we can do just about anything we set our mind to. Thank you for your generous donation!" - Kathy Bostwick GKTW - Entertainment Manager

Ask any child at GKTW where they like to go at the Village (boy or girl) and they will tell you the La-Ti-Da Royal Salon. Sure, the girls like it for the nail polish and the make-up, but all children LOVE IT for the airbrush tattoos!

As we walked through the salon that just one year earlier housed drawers full of items, we were shocked to see drawers that were practically bare. It didn't take long to sign the documents necessary to direct the funds as needed. Thanks to your support, GKTW will continue to make many happy memories for sick children and their siblings as they visit the La-Ti-Da Royal Salon!

February 2010
Karsyn's Krusaders partnered with K98.5 and St. Jude to raise funds at the annual Country Cares for St. Jude Kids Radiothon.  In just two short hours, Karsyn's Krusaders raised more than $5,000!

December 2009
Donated $3,000 to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to support research and patient education programs in memory of and in honor of friends and other racing individuals whom we were aware of who had battled cancer.  One such person was Wendy Irvine, wife of driver, Brian Irvine.

December 2009
Adopted the wish of a 3 year old boy named Cameron through the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The family has been long-time race fans and supporters of several late model drivers in Iowa. Cameron was diagnosed with Leukemia in August 2009, but has not yet been able to take his "wish" trip to Disney World. The goal is to send Cameron and his family on their "trip of a lifetime" in 2011!
